Software Developer Borrows an Idea from the Auto Industry
CHICAGO – August 10, 2009 – Software development firm Ai2 is taking a page from the current presidential administration’s playbook, specifically the page about "Cash for Clunkers." The company is offering credit to distributors who replace old Telxon or MSI devices with a modern solution from Ai2.
"Telxons have outlived their usefulness, but unfortunately many companies still depend on them," said Ray Walsh, vice president of sales for Access. "We always want to make it easier to implement our solutions, so what better than a financial incentive?"
Telxon was once the gold standard for data collection and transmission via an analog telephone line. The devices usually use an acoustic coupler to transmit data via the mouthpiece of an ordinary landline telephone. In the digital age, distributors need more functionality from their applications.
Ai2 provides a suite of solutions for retailers to manage their orders, product returns, purchase history and more. Ai2’s solutions run on the Windows Mobile platform on rugged handheld computers with the capability to scan UPC codes.
"Sending in your orders with our handheld solutions for salespeople and customers is as easy as sending text messages. And we know everyone can do that," said Walsh with a laugh.
The program is scheduled to run until December 31, 2009.
Ai2 is a 23-year old software firm headquartered in downtown Chicago. Their applications are used by over 35,000 users each day to capture over 30 billion dollars in sales each year. Ai2 improves the order entry process for some of the nation’s largest distributors in foodservice, convenience store, grocery, beverage, hardware, medical, beauty and industrial supply.
