Buy-Low Buys ACE

Canadian Grocery Distributor Selects Ai2 To Replace Telxons

CHICAGO - July 22, 2011 - Software developer Ai2 announced today that Buy-Low Foods of Vancouver, British Columbia will implement ACE, Ai2's handheld solution for retail order entry in grocery distribution. The ACE solution runs on a handheld Windows Mobile computer called the Memor from manufacturer Datalogic.

Buy-Low Foods will use ACE to replace older legacy devices like Telxons or MSI that rely on acoustic communication and provide a one-way data environment. A device manufactured in the late 1980s or early 1990s cannot tell a retailer anything about weekly specials, product information, new pricing or any of the other features that ACE gives to a distributor. ACE integrates directly into a distributor's host and eliminates communication errors that arise with older devices that rely on acoustic coupler technology.

Buy-Low wanted to offer more value and more timely information to the stores they own as well as their independent customers. ACE will give them the ability to do that. "We're excited to help a company like Buy-Low," said Douglas Katich, CEO for Ai2. "We’re going to help their customers become better buyers."

ACE features two-way communication between a retailer and a distributor that improves business operations for both. Ai2 provides the computer hardware through a partnership with hardware manufacturer Datalogic. ACE users can scan, look up items, see their pricing, track a running order total, handle substitute items and transmit orders via modem or Internet connection.

Buy-Low Foods is the largest food wholesale distributor to independents in Canada, servicing nearly 1,800 supermarket, convenience and specialty produce markets. With 24 corporate and franchise supermarkets, Buy-Low Foods also provides products directly to consumers in communities throughout British Columbia and Alberta. Buy-Low Foods is a privately held company purchased by The Jim Pattison Group, Vancouver, British Columbia in 1995. The company was originally founded in 1966 with the first store opening at Arbutus Street & 16th Avenue in Vancouver. For more, visit Buy-Low Foods' website.

Ai2 (formerly Access International) was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in downtown Chicago.  Their applications are used by over 75,000 users each day to capture over 75 billion dollars in sales each year.  Ai2 improves the order entry process for some of the nation’s largest distributors in foodservice, convenience store, grocery, beverage, hardware, medical, beauty and industrial supply.  For more information about Ai2, visit www.ai2.com.
